Dieser Ansatz betrachtet Gesundheit als das Ergebnis verschiedener Risiko-, Schutz- und Umweltfaktoren, denen wir im Verlauf unseres Lebens ausgesetzt sind. Dabei wurden verschiedene kausale Modelle entwickelt, wie das Modell der sensiblen (oder kritischen) Periode, das Akkumulationsmodell oder das Pfadmodell. Diese Modelle postulieren, dass chronische Krankheiten sowohl durch phasenabh\u00e4ngige Ereignisse als auch durch die Anh\u00e4ufung von Risikofaktoren \u00fcber die Lebensspanne hinweg entstehen k\u00f6nnen. Der Life Course Approach bietet einen theoretischen Rahmen, der es erm\u00f6glicht, den Einfluss unterschiedlicher Faktoren im fr\u00fchen Leben auf die Gesundheit im Erwachsenenalter und im h\u00f6heren Alter besser zu verstehen. In diesem Kapitel werden die Grundlagen des Lebenslauf-Ansatzes sowie m\u00f6gliche (epigenetische) Mechanismen beschrieben.
